Voice over artistry is an exciting field that has surged in popularity recently. With the growth of streaming services and online content, expressing emotion and storytelling through voice overs has never been more essential. From animated characters to audiobooks, films and commercials, voice overs offer creators a distinctive way to showcase their talent and engage audiences.

I recently joined this fascinating world, when I completed The Business of Voice-Over Artistry, a comprehensive four week supported learning program provided by Beylearning and facilitated by my tutor, the highly competent Bunmi Afolabi. This program highlighted the power and versatility of the voice. It quickly became clear through my learning that this art is about more than just speaking; it’s about creating compelling stories through sound.

What is Voice Over Artistry?

Voice over artistry is about using your voice to deliver a message or tell a story. Your voice will often need to convey varying emotions, intonations, pitch, pace, emphasis, volume, breath, even accents to resonate with the intended audience. To help you imagine this more, think about the difference between a National Geographic documentary and an animation for example. What differences might you notice in the narrators voice? That's the versatility that voice over brings to life!

The Learning Curve

I've learnt that Voice Over Artistry is more than just having a pleasant voice; it involves mastering the tools and techniques for effective recording. Understanding sound recording and editing is crucial for success in this field. For example, learning to use software like Audacity or Adobe Audition can elevate one's work significantly, ensuring high-quality output.

And to improve my skills, I'm intent on studying how the experts in the field do it, as well as immersing myself in various voice over styles such as animated films, commercials, podcasts, movie trailers, gaming and audiobook narration etc, the list is endless.

The Voice Over Adventure Awaits

Embarking on this journey in Voice Over Artistry is thrilling and scary for me at the same time. This art requires dedication, commitment and consistency, but I see the joy of storytelling through voice as something that can be extremely rewarding.

I'm eager to use my voice to tell stories world over, I know the world is eager for new voices!

Catch you later! Chich.
