Love Deeply, Work Excellently.

In the first sermon of the new month, Pastor said human beings have got it twisted!

God's original intention for work and family was for us to love our families deeply and carry out our work excellently. But since the fall of man, we've got this original order reversed, work and family have collided and this has misaligned our priorities and God's original intent.

The core of who we are and how we see ourselves is defined by what we do for work and how we relate with our families.

Work is God-given. It's important and we need to do it well - it's how we make a living, but we can sometimes get so engrossed with work and its responsibilities that we forget to cherish and prioritise the relationships God has entrusted us with.

Family is equally God-given. When our jobs are taken away or when we can no longer work, it's not the work achievements that carry us over, it's the relationships that we foster that will ultimately determine how we carry on and finish our race here on earth. But we can also get so taken away with strengthening relationships, that we become lazy and don't honour the work we're supposed to excel at.

However, life's unpredictable seasons will sometimes require prioritising work over family and vice versa, and it's okay to acknowledge this in whatever season. The goal isn't to attain a perfect balance between these two, but to consistently grow and work towards delivering excellent work and loving family deeply.

So for me, September's reminder starts off with a lesson on re-centering and re-evaluating my priorities by answering questions like:

  • What are my current priorities? Do they need to change?

  • What can I practically do in this month to strengthen my relationship with family?

  • How can I excel in the work that God has entrusted me with in this season? (In this instance, "work" also includes tertiary studies, household chores or any other commitments).

What are you working towards in this new month? Feel free to let me in the comments below!

Happy new month and I hope September yields much fruit and promise!🌼

Catch you in the next post!
