"You don't belong anywhere where they didn't recognise you leaving. If people can not appreciate your presence, they deserve your absence"...
I got this quote from a reel online and I felt a way about it so I decided to jot down a few thoughts.
This reel got me in my feelings because as a recovering people pleaser, I have found myself in seasons of life where I haven't always recognised and appreciated my worth and value. I have given my most precious commodity, time, to people, places and things that in hindsight didn't require, deserve or appreciate it. I have overstayed my welcome in uncomfortable situations that I know I had no business being in, I have mistaken manipulative labour for love, and have given for free what should have been properly priced and paid for or never been given in the first place. I have kept silent when I should have spoken up, smiled in public and cried in secret about what I couldn't confront, all in the name of "wanting to keep the peace" and "be mature". But is that really what peace and maturity look like? And of course there's a time and place, HOWEVER, when you've adopted the mentality that it is rebellious to be confrontational, to ask questions and to be confident enough to walk away from unhealthy situations...it's easy to justify manipulative behaviour and become so comfortable in your misery that even when you're taken for granted, undervalued or unappreciated etc.,....you stay and accept what is as though you deserve it. You don't!
It's life's uncomfortable moments and mistakes that help us grow and become better but the onus is on us to really learn from these moments and DO better otherwise the cycle repeats itself.
I've heard phrases like, "Go where you're loved" or "stay close to people who feel like sunshine" and this hasn't steered me wrong yet. This isn't to mean you should stay in your comfort zone and not grow, but rather that for the sake of your peace of mind and holistic wellness, be around people that radiate love and light. And hopefully, their warmness will rub onto you so much that you can reciprocate this love and light to others, especially those who need it.
If no one told you today;
You are Stronger than You Think
You are Deeply Loved by God
You are Needed in this World
You are Not Your Past
You are Capable
You are Valuable
You are Worthy
You are Loved
You Matter.
I'll leave you with one of my favourite quotes by Melissa Fredericks;
"You are worth it as is, without change, without exception".
Believe it!
Catch you in the next post!
