A reflection on the unfailing nature of death, inspired by a sequence of recent events...
Death is audacious.
It's not something that can be avoided, or granted a last-minute reprieve. It's always there, lurking in the shadows, waiting for its moment to strike. Most of us are afraid of it or we usually avoid thinking about it...it's a painful and unwelcome experience for most of us, even though it's inevitable.
Death seems to bring a kind of deep-seated terror that is only matched by the profound sense of loss that follows its passing.
It's not just that you miss those that it takes away from you—but that it leaves a gaping hole in our hearts, forever missing the ones we lost and there's nothing we can do about it—except keep living and revisiting the memories and experiences we once shared.
I read somewhere that death isn't an opportunity for regret or disappointment—it's an opportunity for peace and acceptance. And while this may seem counterintuitive, when you are truly ready for death to come, i think it can bring you great peace of mind.
It's not the end for us on this earth until the moment of death, that doesn't mean it can't be scary, it means that most people get to watch more sunsets than sunrises. It also means that our final moments aren't counted in days or weeks, but in moments and experiences.
Are you being intentional about creating lasting moments and experiences?
Catch you in the next post!
