We drove to Lancelin this past weekend, it's a small coastal town a few hours up north known for its picturesque views and storey-high white sand dunes. The scenic drive up there alone was worth the trip, it was blue skies, green trees, blossoming flowers, white sand and ocean views along the way. We drove there to experience two thrilling outdoor activities: buggy riding and sand boarding! And let me tell you...this was an experience I'll never forget!

The buggy ride was nerve-wracking and intense at first, it felt like we were weaving through, speeding up, about and around the sand dunes at like 100km/hr but in all honesty the max we drove was about 40km!😂 We were in a group of about 20 people, all driving in a line with experienced trail guides to ensure safety so in reality we were fine but with all the weaving and winding and going up and down the dunes, it really felt a bit scary. I guess that's the point of adventure, it's meant to keep you on the edge of your seat, grabbing on for dear life, praying and almost cussing at the same time...the thrill!

The wind rushing through my box braids, the exhilaration of the ride coupled with breath taking views was pure joy to say the least. I would recommend buggy riding to anyone seeking an adventure!

The real highlight of the day though was sand boarding. I initially wasn't keen on it, I didn't want to get sand in my 4c hair or body crevices, but I would have regretted going all the way to Lancelin, paying for these activities and not giving them a fair go. So after the buggy ride, we got our sand boards and the wax to rub onto the bottom of the board for smoother sliding, and made our way up a sand dune. I can't remember the last time I had fun in the sand but as with the buggy riding experience, I was excited but equally nervous too. 🥴

The walk up the sand dune required a fair bit of effort, it felt like I was fighting against sinking in the sand but getting to the top of the dune was worth the fight. My first attempt at sand boarding, I toppled over half way through the dune, off the board and right into the sand, getting it everywhere but once I got the hang of it, it was so much fun, I enjoyed the child-like play! I toppled over a couple more times, the feeling of gliding down the dunes on a board is a unique and exciting way to experience the sand dunes, a once in a lifetime sort of feeling!

The only downside to the day was the heat. It was scorching by the time we decided to leave but it was worth it. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves thrills and trying new things. Just be prepared for the heat especially if you'll be visiting in summer, so try to get there as early as possible and carry your snacks, sunscreen and lots of water!

Cheers to trying new things and making memories, this trip is certainly one for the books! 🥂 Speak to you in the next post,

Chich.
