A few hours drive down south, located in the natural bushland features of Margaret River, surrounded by tall trees, thick bushes and gravel roads, the Eagles Heritage Raptor Wildlife Centre is home to a variety of majestic birds like Eagles, Owls, Falcons and other raptors. If you're a fan of birds, you'll enjoy this place! The Centre was established in 1987 to protect and conserve birds of prey and is completely self-funded, relying on visitor's admissions and purchases to help continue its operations.

Part of the tour experience included an interesting informative presentation and bird flying show facilitated by a really knowledgeable staff member. Here, we got to see the birds in action - feeding, soaring and gliding through the air. 🦅

We were also introduced to an albino Sooty Owl called Snowy who was the star of the show, i couldn't get a clearer photo he was a sight to see. His rare genetic makeup makes him unable to survive in the wild but he's not to be underestimated, he's still a dangerous raptor! Fun fact: a Sooty Owl's typical call is a short, descending screech which can sound like a whistle from afar or like a high pitched shriek or scream if close by, and this can be unbearable for our ears.

After the show, we walked around the Centre to get an even closer look at other birds and

their unique characteristics and features. My favourite to see was Mr Grace, a cheerful wedge-tailed Eagle and long time resident of the centre who was initially blind but whose vision has now been restored to about 80% after receiving proper care at the Centre. Because I liked Mr Grace so much, I have a corny joke for you; Why are eagles so religious?....(the answer is at the end of this post.)

On our way out of the Centre we bought some souvenirs from the shop there, a few fridge magnets and a beautiful feather covered journal. The staff at the Center were so kind and friendly and that helped end the visit on such a good note.☺️

So whether you're a seasoned birdwatcher, just looking to see something different or have a fun day out, the Eagles Heritage Raptor Wildlife Centre is definitely worth a visit, there's a lot to see and learn!

Joke's Answer: ... because they're birds of prey!😂🥴🤷‍♀️

Catch you in the next post!
