One of the mutual interests that hubby and I share is a love for travelling, exploring and experiencing new things, so we were excited to visit Sugarloaf Rock for the first time together. This gigantic granite rock that emerges from the Indian Ocean is located in the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park on the coast of WA. This place is a sight to see for nature lovers, no wonder it's one of the most photographed coastal landforms in the south west!

We arrived at about 3pm, eager to take in the stunning views of the famous rock, the ocean and the surrounding landscape. From the carpark, we walked along the winding path up the steps towards the elevated viewing point, where we were captivated by the incredible panoramic views of the coast and the main attraction...the gigantic Sugarloaf rock! It towers over the ocean at an impressive height of over 50m with strong deathly waves crashing against it.
From the viewing point, you can clearly see this large natural granite island in the Indian Ocean, separated from mainland by dangerous waters. We didn't see any dolphins or whales but we've heard that they're often spotted here in the months of July to October. If you shift your gaze slightly to the right you can just about see the white towering Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse in the distance (about 3km away), poking in between the steep green hills around.
It was windy around but the air was sooo fresh, and we couldn't help but feel a sense of serenity and appreciation for nature's beauty as we just stared, took pictures and admired the view. There's a couple of benches around and a trail up the hills that allows you to hike up and enjoy the view from different angles, we didn't get on the trail but I'd imagine the views from there are equally stunning. As scenic as the area is, it's also a well known habitat for wildlife, i.e., wildflowers, reptiles, seabirds etc., so caution should be exercised at all times and the wildlife signs and warnings adhered to for your safety.

This trip was an absolute dream! Sugarloaf Rock is such a beautiful place to visit. Most people love to catch the sunset here too, apparently the colour of the rock changes when the sun sets over the ocean, what a sight!
From the breathtaking views to the peaceful atmosphere, it was the perfect way for us to end the day together. Definitely, a must-visit if you can!🤗
Catch you in the next post!
